YUM!

What is this you ask? Well as you can probably tell it's a McDonald's happy meal. What makes it so special is that I bought this happy meal October 25, 2003. It was never refrigerated. It just sat in my pantry. There are so many preservatives in the food that it never molded or went bad, it just hardened. This meal or any fast food meal for that matter has little if any nutritional value. I am guilty of going through the drive thru and grabbing something on the go but not often. Hubby and I eat organic for the purpose of lowering the preservatives we put into our bodies along with the pesticides. Not all of my produce is organic, I do enjoy buying locally too! I love the idea of knowing exactly what farm my meat comes from and that I know what the animal has eaten. It was given no growth hormones nor antibiotics. Both of which are found in your milk that you buy at the grocery store. Real food rots. Real food is the healthiest!

  3. Stopping by by way of Grocery Cart Challenge. Hi! I can not believe what I just saw (and read)! How gross. Funny thing is I used to work at McD's several years ago and the stuff every. single. day.

  5. I am appalled!

I found you at Gayle's and thought I needed to come over and read the post... she made it sound fascinating and she was right.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

  6. I just made my husband come look at this too. WOW. His only question is what made you think to do this? We RARELY eat at fast food joints, but I have a feeling our little one won't be getting happy meals in his future.

    Thanks for the insight!

I'm stopping from Gayle's too...I was tickled to be mentioned as well :)

  8. Heather- I had a friend point out to me a happy meal that she had and didn't go bad after a few days of leaving it out. So I went out bought a happy meal and sat it in the pantry. I honestly forgot about it. A few months later I remembered it and was totally disgusted by what I found. It hadn't changed. It has now become a staple in my pantry....6 years later. It's a good reminder for me to not eat fast food and to choose something healthier. You can barely see what's on the bag because of the grease. The bag still feels greasy! It's crazy!

  13. Wow! Kind of scary. I already refuse to eat at Mcdonalds, but this is even more incentive not to.

  14. I worked my way through college thanks to McDonalds, but I am glad to leave that behind. Once we did a similar experiment. Once the fries got dried out (it took a few days) they never changed again. After a bit, it was hard to tell which ones were 3 months and which were 2 weeks, plus we had to deep clean the store, and they got tossed out.

  18. No wonder the kids in this country are so unhealthly! We rarely eat out, and when we do, choose something other than McDonalds, we all feel horrible after we eat there.
Thanks for posting that, I've never seen an experiment that it before.

  19. Hi Arelene posted a link to your article on Facebook, so I popped over to read it in it's entirety. Wow! So very true! The fact that it didn't spoil doesn't surprise me at all. I really believe junk like that is the cause of most of what ails Americans.

  20. I needed to see that! THANKS! Gross!

  23. Thanks for posting this! That is truly disturbing to say the least. My daughter (3) loves the Apple Dippers and I thought it was fruit (she doesn't eat the dip), so yay! They were forgotten and two weeks later when we saw them they were still white, like we had just gotten them! Even when we opened the package (just to see what would happen) they never turned brown!! Just goes to show how much the fast food industry doesn't care about what we eat as long as they're selling it.

  24. Holy smokes...as a vegan I would never consider going to McDonalds so although I know they don't serve 'real food' I really never understood completely just how 'fake' it is.
